Update #4 – Where did Wyvern Moor come from?
about 1 month ago – Wed, Aug 12, 2026 at 05:35:46 AM

Hello there,

An Army Of Death

I've been asked a few times where the idea for Wyvern Moor (and Kreel Manor) began, and the honest answer is... quite a long time ago.

Some of you may have spotted the scruffy sketch from one of my old exercise books on the campaign page. That was a seed of the project. Long before Hall or Nothing Productions existed, I was drawing maps, inventing monsters and scribbling adventure ideas instead of paying attention in class. The Wyvern Moor map was one of many in the fantasy world that eventually became Kilforth (actually Kilfrith, in a very early draft). Kilforth was the world for most of my D&D campaigns, and also the world for my fanmade Fighting Fantasy adventure creatively called The Army of Death. :D

There were city maps with dubiously named streets:

'Prick Alley' was named after a tattooist shop, honest, guv

And even hyper-detailed illustrations (you can see why I work closely with a team of professional artists):

Maybe should have been called Army of Trees

Back then I dreamed of making sprawling fantasy adventures and stories. I wanted to become a fantasy author, mainly because I didn't know you could become a board game designer... As a geek growing up in the 80s, from the moment I saw that red Basic D&D box in a second hand sale, I didn't stand a chance! After that came Dragon Quest, Fighting Fantasy, Talisman, HeroQuest, etc. This might be a familiar path to some of you. Needless to say, I was overtaken by the idea of exploring dungeons and slaying denizens.

But for Wyvern Moor, rather than exploring the same dungeon over and over, I wanted a game where you set out across a dangerous landscape, discover adventures as you travel, make meaningful choices, and gradually build your hero into someone capable of facing whatever lies ahead. Along the way you'll recruit companions, acquire powerful equipment, encounter strange characters, delve into deadly locations and, hopefully, survive long enough to tell the tale. In many ways, it feels like the game my teenage self wanted to play.

Thank you

We're now into the second week of the campaign, and I'm delighted with how things are going. :) The response to the campaign so far has been fantastic. Every pledge, comment and share really does help a small publisher like us, and Francesca and I appreciate every single one. If you've got any questions about the game, pop them in the comments. I'm always happy to chat. And if you know someone who enjoys fantasy adventure games, solo gaming or dungeon crawlers, I'd be incredibly grateful if you'd point them towards the campaign.

Gloom of Kilforth on Discord

For those who've just joined us, I'll be doing a live play-through of the fan-made and mercilessly addictive digital adaptation of my first game Gloom of Kilforth on Sunday at 8pm BST on our Hall or Nothing Discord channel. You're most welcome to join us and join in with the chat, or just have a sandwich and watch here:

Thank you again for being part of the adventure.

Cheers!

Wyvern Moor Update #3 – Join me for a game of Gloom of Kilforth
about 1 month ago – Fri, Aug 07, 2026 at 06:34:02 AM

Hello there,

Some of you may know that there's a fan-made digital version of Gloom of Kilforth, created by the mightily talented Jarrett Dunn. With Wyvern Moor now funded, I thought it might be fun to jump onto the Hall or Nothing Discord for a relaxed playthrough if there's enough interest.

Nothing too formal - just me playing a game of Gloom, and a chance to chat about Kilforth, Kreel Manor, Wyvern Moor, game design, The Odyssey, why I'm obsessed with Vinland Saga, or whatever else comes up. :D And don't worry if you've never used Discord before — it's completely free, and it's easy to join and use.

If you'd be interested in joining, let me know in the comments below. If enough people fancy it, I'll set something up for sometime next weekend (15th-16th August). :)

Hope to see some of you there!

Cheers, and have a ruddy good weekend,

Tristan

Wyvern Moor Update #2 – Project We Love!
about 1 month ago – Thu, Aug 06, 2026 at 04:11:44 AM

Hello there,

A lovely little surprise to wake up to this morning...

Project We Love!

Kickstarter has awarded Wyvern Moor a Project We Love badge!

We're genuinely honoured. As a tiny two-person publisher, it means a great deal to receive that kind of recognition.

Of course, none of this would have happened without all of you. Every pledge, comment, share and recommendation has helped get Wyvern Moor off to such an incredible start, and we can't thank you enough for your support.

If you've been enjoying the campaign, we'd be hugely grateful if you could continue spreading the word over the coming weeks. Every recommendation helps another adventurer discover the game.

From both Francesca and me, thank you once again for believing in what we do.

Now... back to making Wyvern Moor the best dungeon crawl card game we possibly can.

Cheers,

Tristan

Wyvern Moor Update #1 – Well... that escalated quickly
about 2 months ago – Tue, Aug 04, 2026 at 12:04:31 PM

Hello there,

Well... what a day.

A massive thank you to everyone who has backed Wyvern Moor already. In less than a day you've helped raise over £40,000 from more than 300 backers, taking the campaign to over 400% of its funding goal. That's incredibly humbling. It's been an amazing first day, and Francesca and I couldn't be more grateful. Every pledge, comment, like and share has helped get the campaign off to an amazing start. Thank you.

It's easy to forget sometimes that Hall or Nothing is still just the wife and I (except when you're reading one of my rambling updates...). Every game, every rulebook, every Kickstarter update, every customer email... it's all us. So seeing so many of you turn up on day one means the world. :)

One of my favourite parts of launch day has simply been reading through your comments. There are so many familiar names from Gloom of Kilforth, Veilwraith, Kreel Manor and beyond. It's like welcoming old friends back around the gaming table.

Haven't played a Hall or Nothing dungeon crawler before?

A few people have asked how the Dungeon Crawl Card Game system plays, and the easiest answer is... play it!

Thanks to the wonderful folks at Tabletopia, Kreel Manor is available to play online for free. Since Wyvern Moor builds on the same core gameplay system, it's a great way to get a feel for the encounters, exploration and card-driven dungeon crawling while the campaign is running.

The Kreel Manor rulebook is available to download here, and it does not take long to get grips with Tabletopia.

If you enjoy Kreel Manor, you'll have a very good idea of the foundations that Wyvern Moor is built upon:

Thank you

We're only at the beginning of the campaign, but what a start it's been.

I'll be dropping in with more updates over the coming weeks as the campaign progresses. In the meantime, if you have any questions, just ask. I read every comment, even if it sometimes takes me a little while to reply!

And finally, if you know someone who loves fantasy adventure games, solo games or dungeon crawlers, I'd be hugely grateful if you could point them in Wyvern Moor's direction. I can't tell you the amount of times at UK Games Expo or GenCon or Essen that some told me 'A friend introduced me to your games'. So don't underestimate all those likes and shares. Word of mouth has always been Hall or Nothing's greatest strength, and that's entirely down to you.

You are our Word of Mouth.

You are our Mouth of Sauron.

No, perhaps not.

But thanks all the same. 😄

Now... back to answering comments:

Which is your favourite gamebook, Fighting Fantasy or otherwise? (I'm always looking for recommendations.)

Cheers!

Tristan and Francesca
